AltBrau brewing and blending from Oakland, CA is featuring their funky beers at one of Europe's best wild beer events and launching an IndieGoGo campaign in the summer of 2018.
AltBrau, a beer blog, podcast, and collaborative brewing project started by Certified Cicerone® and Beer Judge Tim Decker, will be pouring their mixed culture beers at Carnivale Brettanomyces in Amsterdam in June 2018. They return to the Bay Area on the 4th of July and will be launching a crowdfunding campaign with IndieGoGo.com later that month.
Established in 2013, AltBrau was born from Tim Decker's interest as a homebrewer wanting to learn from professional brewers. Over the last 5 years they have brewed and blended small batches with Bay Area breweries such as Woods, FreeWheel, and Bartlett Hall as well as Germany's Freigeist Bierkultur, and several others.
In 2016 and 2017 AltBrau worked with Oregon's acclaimed De Garde Brewing Co. to create three special releases. These beers (Avenue No. 1, 2, 3) were released to the public exclusively at Brews for New Avenues, Portland's annual beer fest and rare beer auction. The sale of those beers has raised over $30,000 for New Avenues for Youth and their work aiding at-risk youth.
AltBrau specializes in mixed culture beers utilizing a variety of yeast, bacteria, malt, hops, fruit, and spices to create beers with complex flavors. They are based in Oakland, California and will be housing their fermentation vessels (oak barrels and stainless tanks) at Shady Oak Barrel House.
Carnivale Brettanomyces features many of the world greatest wild and sour breweries and occurs throughout the city of Amsterdam over four nights. AltBrau will be pouring their beers during the homebrewer's night on Thursday June 21st at Oedipus Brewing.
To help promote the IndieGoGo campaign AltBrau will be releasing bottles of their two upcoming collaborations with Shady Oak Barrel House. Tasting events in Oakland, San Francisco, and Fresno are currently in the works.
